Redbarn Beach regains its Blue Flag status in the 2015 Blue Flag Awards
Quality Hotel Youghal are delighted that Redbarn Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag for excellent water quality this year. This puts it in a unique position on our coast line as only 81 beaches in Ireland have received this accolade. Worldwide, the Blue Flag is awarded to approximately only 4000 beaches in 49 countries across Europe, South Africa, Tunisia, New Zeland, Brazil and the Caribbean
The Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognised eco-labels. Beaches and marinas that achieve this honour must comply with a specific set of criteria relating to water quality, information provision, environmental education, safety and beach management. At beaches the bathing water must comply with the excellent standard in accordance with the 2006 EU Bathing Water Directive. The Blue Flag programme is funded in Ireland by the Department of the Environment, Community & Local Governmen
“This is a fantastic news for the local community in Youghal, our customers and indeed our team at the Quality Hotel.” said Allan McEnery, General Manager at Quality Hotel, “There is nothing more important to us than the beach and the seashore outside our door. Knowing that it has been acknowledged as such an excellent environment is fantastic news and we would like to thank everyone who has helped to contribute to this achievement”.
This week, water samples were taken from the Front Strand in Youghal and Cork County Council noted that the water quality was graded as ‘Excellent’ and equal to ‘Blue Flag’ status. This is also excellent news for Youghal.
