Where the Land meets the Sea
Wicklow based landscape artist Niki Purcell will present an exhibition of her Cork coastal land and seascapes at Cronin’s Pub, Crosshaven. Opening on Wednesday 29 November viewers can expect to see expressive and gestural interpretations of Crosshaven, Nohoval, Kinsale and other familiar scenes.
Niki Purcell graduated from NCAD with an honours degree in 1995 and has worked as an artist ever since. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including the Guinness Hopstore, RHA Gallery and Hugh Lane Dublin City Gallery and is also part of the OPW collection.
Niki describes her work as subjective emotive responses to her surroundings. They are evolved from a fascination of the interactions between the natural elements such as light and wind and where they meet the land and sea. Rustling trees, restless cloudscapes, or the sheer stillness of a calm sea are just some of the subjects in this show.
“For me, the act of painting is creating a world or story on a canvas that can both live and grow both in my head or the viewer’s imagination. This is the magic and purpose of my work. A painting should suggest and conjure up a whole world of possibilities that can make each viewing a new experience.” says the artist.
The exhibition opens on Wednesday 29 November at 8pm in Cronin’s Pub, Crosshaven and runs until February 2018. This traditional seaside pub is acclaimed for its seafood offerings and also included in the 2018 Michelin Guide for Dining out in Pubs.
