The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden presents a live broadcast of Richard Wagner’s opera, The Flying Dutchman [Der fliegende Holländer], which will be streamed directly from the London stage to a big screen in Ballymaloe Grainstore on Tuesday 24 February at 7:15pm.
A night at the opera is true spectacle – thrilling, romantic, and an escape from reality into a world of drama and passion. It is said that opera combines the best of other art forms, and that is so true. If you like West End musicals, drama, classical music, or dance then come see this world-famous opera.
Whether you are a bona fide ‘opera buff’ or simply want to ‘give opera a go,’ this is a fantastic opportunity to see a massive production in real time directly from London. It is performed in modern dress, and is 2 hours and 20 minutes long (no interval). Behind the scenes interviews with the cast and creative team are part of the live broadcast.
The Flying Dutchman is the story of a sea captain who has been cursed for eternity. Once every seven years he is allowed to come ashore to seek redemption. He may have found it in Senta, a woman who longs for escape from her dreary life.
