Cork French Film Festival – Candlelit Supper & Screening

Candlelit supper in Ballymaloe House with menu inspired by the film at 6:30pm.

Screening of Les Saveurs du Palais in Ballymaloe Grainstore at 8pm.

Based on the true story of the strong-minded woman who became President François Mitterrand’s personal chef, this film takes us on a journey to rediscover the simple, yet sumptuous pleasures of traditional French cuisine.

Hortense Laborie is an acclaimed chef living in the Périgord region of France, where she raised geese for foie gras and cooked the recipes passed down to her by her mother and grandmother. She is astonished when the Président de la République appoints her to be his personal chef in the Palais de l’Élysée, but in the corridors of power, many obstacles are hiding.

This is a film about good, yet simple dining-room cooking. The kind of cooking that everyone knows about, but nobody knows how to do. It’s a kind of poem. – Danièle Mazet-Delpeuch, Personal Chef to President François Mitterrand

Directed by Christian Vincent.
