Film and sculpture come alive with story, song and music in the highly atmospheric underground chambers of Camden Fort Meagher, a coastal artillery fort in Cork Harbour, Crosshaven. Darkly torchlit with different smells and sounds will bring you into a whole other world. Experience unusual spaces such as the underground vaulted ammunitions room and engine rooms, opened to the public for the first time.
Artists Marie Brett and John McHarg produced Torpedo in collaboration with members of the Camden Fort Meagher community. The work is inspired by the Brennan torpedo; Camden has the only one in Ireland, one of only eight in the world. Louis Brennan was a prolific inventor and one of Ireland’s greatest engineers during the late 19th and early 20th century.
Torpedo was made possible with financial support from The Arts Council /An Chomhairle Ealaíon though an AIC Award administered by Create; and Cork County Council Economic and Social Development. Additional assistance was given by Cork Midsummer Festival.
