A free guide featuring 17 scenic walking, wheeling and woodland trails across East Cork and Cork Harbour has been launched by SECAD.

The Keep Moving in Nature guide features attractions such as Fota House, Arboretum and Gardens, the Midleton to Youghal Greenway, forest strolls through Glenbower, Marlogue and Castlemartyr, and coastal hikes along Ballycotton and Knockadoon Cliff Walks, and promotes easy, local adventures for all ages and abilities.

Created by SECAD, the A5 guide builds on the success of the 2023 interactive online edition and is available at Cork tourist offices, libraries, and online.

The project, made possible with funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development through the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme, responds to a growing demand from both locals and visitors for printed resources promoting rural and nature-based recreation.

Commenting on the brochure launch, SECAD spokesperson and project co-ordinator Elga Ryan, said:

“This time of year is perfect for getting outdoors, and the guide will inspire you to explore somewhere new each time, and it’s also a great free resource for visitors looking to enjoy East Cork and Cork Harbour.

“Whether you’re a local looking for a new weekend walk, or you have family or friends visiting the area, the guide is a perfect way to make the most of Cork’s incredible natural offering, while supporting local tourism and encouraging healthy, outdoor activity.”

The guide is already proving a hit with local accommodation providers who have described the guide as a great way to encourage guests to plan longer stays to explore more of what the region has to offer.

People are encouraged to pick up a free brochure from their nearest tourist office or Cork library branch, or download a digital version online at www.ringofcork.ie/outdoor.
