300th Anniversary of the Death of William Penn

A day-long variety of events to commemorate the 300th Anniversary of the Death of William Penn, founder of Philadelphia and who lived for a time in both Macroom and Shanagarry Castles will be held in Midleton Library and surrounding area. The day is being organised with the kinds thanks of Midleton Library and the Midleton, Ballinacurra and Area Heritage Society. The programme for the day will cover, not just the life of Penn but also, the work of the Quakers in the East Cork Area as well as a dip into the music and literature of the 18th century to give people a taste of what was popular during Penn’s time.
