From medieval gardens and churches, to town walls, the town of Youghal will reverberate with a stunning programme of exciting medieval battles, intriguing walks and inspiring talks, traditional kids’ entertainment as well as mesmerising music over the course of the weekend.
Now in its 11th year, the newly revamped festival programme will see over 10,000 visitors descend on the East Cork town of Youghal. The two day event is funded by The Irish Walled Towns Network (The Heritage Council of Ireland) and Cork County Council.
Youghal is a founding member of The Irish Walled Towns Network. Highlights of the 2 day event include The White Horse Vikings setting up a virtual ‘Medieval Village’ in St. Mary’s College Gardens, and immersing themselves in the medieval way of life.
This year the group will bring over 30 ‘warriors’ who will take to battle at 12pm and 3pm in the gardens on the Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday will see a range of events taking place in St. Mary’s Collegiate Church including a keynote presentation by Daniel Noonan Archaeologist on some of the most spectacular finds in the Church following recent essential conservation works.
Saturday evening will also see a first for the festival with a FREE gala concert in St. Mary’s (6-8pm) with acclaimed soloist Caroline Fraher and St. Colman’s Cathedral Choir, Cobh. Sunday will see the traditional ‘family fun’ day return but with even more in the way of events and performances.
