Ballincollig is the largest town within the Ring of Cork, located approximately 9 kilometres from Cork City, it is the most accessible town to the city.

The town is most famous for the Ballincollig Royal Gunpowder Mills, which were opened in 1794, and occupy the site now home to Ballincollig Regional Park.
