About Carrigaline to Crosshaven Greenway
One of the earliest endeavours in restoring abandoned railway lines for recreational use was the opening up of the route of the old railway line from Carrigaline to Crosshaven. There is great history attached to this walk also as most of it runs along the old Cork to Crosshaven railway line, which operated from 1904 to 1932..
Inspired by two senior citizens, Bill Condon and Eddie Cogan, work began in 1996. And now a 10 kilometre Greenway runs along the edge of beautiful Cork Harbour.
As this is a tidal estuary it is best to time your walk are at high tide as there is shallow mud flats in the area. Along the route you will be able to observe many species of birds and wildlife or relax and have a picnic at the amenity areas provided.
