Balls will roll this August, as the annual Barrack Hill Ball Run returns to Cobh.
The peculiar lottery will see 6,000 brightly coloured balls, each individually numbered, cascade down one of Cobh’s steepest hills.
In its twelfth year the event has helped to raise thousands of Euro for worthy causes.
In previous years Brainwave Ireland, the Oncology Unit at Cork University Hospital, Cobh Hospital, Breaking the Silence Suicide Awareness Group and the Blind Association of Ireland have all benefited from the event.
This year both Cobh GAA and Epilepsy Ireland will share in the proceeds.
Balls are priced at €2 and can be purchased from Cobh GAA Club house or club members.
From 4:00pm entrants can watch their ball bounce and roll downhill, with the first five home receiving a cash prize.
First prize is €500 with €300 for second place, €200 for third, €100 for fourth and €50 for fifth place.
The world famous Big Ball Uphill Challenge will precede the main event, as teams of three attempt to roll an exercise ball up-hill in a relay type event.
The Big Ball Uphill will take place between 2:30pm and 3:30pm on Bank Holiday Monday 6 August.
