51 Degrees North

51 Degrees North as the name evokes is ideally suited for the more adventurous type. Entered from the lower West wing of Crosshaven House, it has its own private pedestrian entrance with ample parking to the outside.

Original white-washed stone walls, barrel vaulted ceilings and brick voussoirs dating back to the mid-18th century are exposed throughout and contrasted with abstract artwork by local artists.

Three nautical themed dorms accommodate upwards of 14 persons on a group booking basis. Hand-crafted bunk-beds are in New-England style and complemented with individual curtains. Each bed even has its own reading light, power outlet and USB point to recharge that drained iPhone of yours!

A 9-seater cinema with surround-sound will blow your ears away if not your mind! Select from hundreds of movies from foreign art house movies to Hollywood blockbusters, from Hitchcock thrillers to romantic comedies.

After a gruesome day’s sailing why not relax over a cold beer or two in your very own private sauna. Afterwards, why not cook and share a meal together in the self-catered country style kitchen complete with a double Aga gas cooker. If you feel like staying in, why not try your hand at cards, share a bottle of wine or play Truth or Dare. If you feel the need to get some fresh air and stretch those legs why not go a take a stroll around the village, visit the many wonderful bars and restaurants just a stone’s throw away.

If you feel a bit more outdoorsy, why not hire a bike, take a walk along the Owenabue river, go kayaking nearby in Fountainstown or take in a Sea Safari around the harbour, all right from your door step! But if you ever get lost be sure to remember your coordinates, it’s 51 Degrees North!
